A little history
Inhabited since the 8th century, for many years, the building was a Hunting Lodge for the Dukes of Lorraine. In 1825, Marianists took over the building and turned it into a school.
These monks were part of the Society of Mary founded by Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, a priest from Bordeaux (1761-1850). They developed very quickly from Saint-Hippolyte around Alsace in the 19th century with about a hundred primary schools and high schools.
Many Alsatian monks left from here to found other establishments around the world
Since the high school closed in 1986, a small community continues to survive on the site and meets in the chapel every day.
